One critical, two hurt as school ceiling caves in

Three persons were injured when the ceiling of a school collapsed. One of them is in critical condition.
Police said that the some construction work was underway when the portion of the first floor of the building had collapsed. All the three injured persons were rushed to the hospital.

Disaster management team of the Kolkata Police arrived on the spot soon after the incident happened on Friday afternoon. The local people said that they saw that a portion of Sarada Vidyamandir School situated at Bondel Gate in Kasba.

Police said that the ceiling collapsed suddenly and three persons got injured due to the sudden mishap. Police disaster management team had to try hard to remove a person who was trapped under the debris. The officers from Kasba Police Station immediately reached the spot and took part in the rescue operation.

One who received critical head injury was taken to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital while the other two were taken to Ramkrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan. According to the police, no school students were injured in the accident.

Police said that it was an old building, a portion of which might have become weaker due to rain. The police are trying to find out the exact cause of the accident.

They are also trying to find out if the remaining portion is safe or not. In that case, it might be demolished if found unsafe and can cause threat to life.
