One arrested for sneaking in cartridges at Kolkata airport

Police have arrested a person at Calcutta airport on the charges of carrying cartridges. Police are investigating why the accused was carrying ammunitions.

Police said that the accused Chinmoy Nandi is a resident of Howrah. On Tuesday morning, the accused was travelling to Delhi from the city by a flight. When his luggage was being scanned at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International airport the security personnel spotted the cartridges inside his luggage. The incident triggered tension at the airport premises. The CISF personnel caught the accused and handed him over to local police station. The NSCBI police station had started a probe in this connection. The police interrogated the accused to know what the reason was behind carrying the bullets with him. Police said that he has been arrested as he was carrying the cartridges inside his luggage without any valid documents. The accused was remanded in police custody after being produced before a Barrackpore court on Tuesday. He was interrogated by the investigating officers.

Police have started a probe to investigate if the accused had any criminal antecedents. Police interrogated the accused to know the purpose of his carrying the cartridges.

Police have started detailed probe to know about the whereabouts of the person and why was he carrying the bullets with him. It may be mentioned that few months ago another person was caught while checking into the Calcutta airport on charges of carrying fire arms.
