One arrested for rape and murder of 15 minor girls

A 24-year-old man, who has allegedly abducted, raped and killed at least 15 girls – aged between two and 10 years – since 2009 in Delhi-NCR and Western UP areas, was arrested from Outer Delhi’s Karala area, police said on Saturday.

The accused, Ravinder Kumar, is a native of UP’s Badaun district, said police.

In Delhi, Kumar had allegedly abducted, raped and killed minor girls mostly at Outer Delhi areas. While two such cases were reported from Begumpur, one each was reported from Samaipur Badli, Kanjhawla and Vijay Vihar. Kumar also confessed to have abducted and raped two girls in Noida, said a police source.

As many as six cases have been registered against Kumar in UP. Of these, one case against him has been registered at Badaun.

However, many of the cases were found to be unregistered, when police teams were sent to cross-check what Kumar had confessed during interrogation, said the source. He added that the total number of cases may go beyond 15.

On July 14, the police received a call that a six-year-old girl was lying dead at an under-construction floor in a unoccupied building in Outer Delhi’s Begumpur area.

Investigations revealed that the girl was allegedly raped before being strangled to death, police said. When the police started looking into missing complaints filed recently, it was found that the girl was a resident of the same area, where her body was found, said Vikramjit Singh, DCP (Outer).

Singh added the police also recovered a driving licence and some other documents from the spot. They belonged to a person named Sunny, police said. It was found that Sunny himself was a victim of a robbery and was recuperating at a government hospital. A robbery case was registered against three persons – Ravinder, his brother Sunil and a juvenile – at the Kanjhawla police station. The trio was allegedly known  to Sunny and had robbed him of his motorcycle, documents and Rs 2,000. “As many as 10 police teams were formed to track the trio,” said Singh.

Ravinder was the first to be arrested, police said. During the course of investigation, the police found that Ravinder was earlier arrested on charges of abduction, attempt to murder and Sections of POCSO Act registered at the Begumpur police station in June 2014.

Ravinder confessed to his crime and told the police that he was involved in as many as 15 such cases, both reported and unreported, in Delhi-NCR and Western UP, Singh said. He added the police were trying to track his brother Sunil and the juvenile, who may provide vital clues in connection with other cases.
