Police arrested a person from Motihari in Bihar on Thursday in connection with the murder of the aged pinewood trader in Jorasanko. It may be mentioned the 75-year-old businessman Khurshid Alam was murdered inside his house. His body with slit throat and several injury marks were found in his room on
Sunday morning. A police officer said that the accused Md Sajjad is a carpenter and he is originally a resident of Motihari in Bihar. The victim had engaged Sajjad to repair a door in his house.
Sajjad had felt that there was good amount of cash in the room of the victim and hatched the plan to decamp with the money after killing him. After preliminary investigation police had found a person who had seen him loitering suspiciously outside the room of the victim on Saturday night. At the same time he went missing the day when the body of the septuagenarian was found in his room.
Police had not even found the victim’s mobile phone in his house. The cell was found in switched off mode when the investigating officers had dialed in its number.
But the police tracked the cell phone using its IMEI number and found that it was somewhere in Motihati. A team comprising officers from the city police’s Detective Department went to Bihar and found that Sajjad had stolen the cell phone of the victim. He was immediately arrested.
Police found cut marks on the left hand of the accused and it was confirmed that the aged person had retaliated when Sajjad had attempted to kill him. He had initially threatened Alam with dire consequences asking him to give all the money and had jumped on him to kill him when he refused to do so.
The accused had searched the entire room after killing Khursid Alam, but he didn’t find the amount that he had expected. He fled soon after the incident and went to his house in Bihar. His family members were also in the dark that he went to home after murdering a person.
His family members and neighbours came to know about his involvement in the crime when police went
to arrest him.
