One arrested for Gzb cop’s murder at police post

Hours after a 28-year-old constable was killed at a police post in Ghaziabad, the district police on Thursday arrested the main accused.

The police apprehended the accused and opened fire at him, after which he surrendered. However, two of his accomplishes managed to flee, police said, adding that efforts were on to apprehend them at the earliest.

The police department, after the policeman’s murder, had asked policemen on duty to take adequate measures to avoid such attacks and had advised them all to wear bullet-proof jackets.

“In an encounter, we have arrested the one accused identified as Gyasi Kharkhari. We have admitted him to the Narendra Mohan Hospital as he has sustained bullet injuries. We will interrogate him about his accomplices and arrest them soon,” said Ajay Pal, Superintendent of Police (City) of Ghaziabad.

In the latest incident, indicating towards the deteriorating law and order situation in the district, the constable was shot by a group of unknown men inside a police post after he refused to give them water for consuming alcohol. The incident took place around 8 pm on Wednesday at the Banthla police post. 

The deceased constable, identified as Suresh Yadav from Etah district, was alone at the police post when the incident took place. Yadav was attacked with a country-made pistol, police said.

“Two-three drunk men arrived at the police post and asked the constable for water, which they would use to consume liquor. The constable denied to serve them water and asked them to get out of the police post. This enraged the men and they had a heated argument with the constable. One of the accused whipped out a country-made gun and opened fire at the policeman from a close range,” the SP said after the incident. Yadav had suffered bullet injuries in the chest and died on the spot.
