One arrested for abetting ex-girlfriend’s suicide

Police arrested Mithun Naskar on charges of abetting the suicide of the girl with whom he had an affair. The accused was arrested  from Khariberia in South 24 Parganas on Tuesday morning.

The girl with whom he had an affair had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of
her room on Sunday night after the accused had posted some obscene photographs of the girl on a social networking site.

Her parents had lodged a complaint with the police against Naskar, who was at large since Sunday night. Police had searched for the accused at various places on Monday. They raided houses of his relatives but couldn’t find him out.

On Tuesday morning, some local people found Naskar writhing in pain in Khariberia. On taking a closer look, people found  that he had attempted suicide by slashing the veins on his hand. The people soon informed the police about the accused.

Policemen from the local police station rushed to the area and arrested Naskar. He was taken to
Amtala Primary Health Centre where he was given necessary treatment. Police suspect that the arrested Naskar was hiding in one of his friends’ house.

The police had produced him before the Alipore Court in the afternoon. He was remanded in the custody of the police for six days. Preliminary investigation had revealed that the youth had posted her photographs on the social networking site when she refused to continue their affair.

The youth had threatened her repeatedly. The situation turned so worse that she didn’t come out of her house for the past few days.

The victim’s family members and residents in the locality demanded maximum punishment of
the accused.
