Once powerful Bo Xilai expelled from China party

The Communist Party of China sacked the disgraced Bo Xilai on Friday, who until recently was one of its most powerful leaders. The decision was taken at a meeting of the central committee of the party after a probe panel submitted a report on Bo's disciplinary violations, the Chinese new agency reported.

Bo's wife Bogu Kailai was last month handed a suspended death sentence for the murder of the British businessman Neil Heywood. An aide who helped her in the crive was jailed for nine years.

Earlier, the central committee was briefed on the probe into Heywood's murder and Chongqing police chief Wang Lijun entering the US consulate without permission in Chengdu.

Bo was removed as Chongqing party chief in March. His dismissal exposed cracks within the party ranks shortly before a leadership transition.
