Old notes worth Rs 49L seized

Delhi Police have seized old notes worth Rs 49,96,000 (notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination) from a Scorpio car near Tikri border in West Delhi, police said on Monday.

According to police, an information was received in Mundka police station that on Sunday a Scorpio vehicle carrying huge cash would pass through Tikri border, Delhi. A team was constituted and at around 12:30 pm, a trap was laid around Tikri border. 

“When the team noticed a Scorpio car going towards Haryana border; the suspected vehicle was stopped and checked. During the check, a total amount Rs 49,96,000/- (cash) in Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes of the banned currency was recovered from the vehicle. 

On enquiry, driver Dinesh (28), a resident of Haryana revealed that he was carrying the amount on the instruction of one Anuj Gupta, a resident of Pitampura who deals in finance and property. The recovered amount has been seized under the provisions of Section 102 CrPC and the Income Tax department has also been informed. The officials of Income Tax department are carrying out necessary action. Further, investigation is underway, police said.
