Old man found dead in his house at Cossipore

Mystery shrouds the death of an elderly person whose body was found inside his house at Cossipore with several injury marks on his body. Police said that the victim Basantalal Koiri a retired employee of CESC used to live at Cossipore Uddan Bati area. The victim also worked as an agent of an insurance company.

The local people on late Thursday morning spotted the body of the victim which was lying on the bed and they informed the matter to the police. The senior officers of the homicide department of Lalbazar and finger print experts visited the spot and started an investigation.

Police are yet to ascertain if it was a case of murder. According to the preliminary investigation police suspect that the victim might have been murdered. Though, the reason behind the murder is still unclear to the police.

The victim’s son Anmol, a class XI student told the police during the interrogation that on Thursday afternoon he found his father lying on the footpath. He was taken to the house by an auto-rickshaw. As he was vomiting blood his son called up a local doctor. The doctor who attended the victim pronounced him dead.

Police are verifying the statements of his son about how the victim had fallen on a footpath in Baranagar. They were also investigating whether he was brought to the house in an auto-rickshaw as his son had claimed. Question here rises if he was brought in an auto-rickshaw then how did the local residents, not notice the incident.

Police said that the victim had several injury marks on his face. They have started a probe in this connection. The body has been sent for the postmortem examination.
