Ola driver, associate gang-rape, murder twelve-year-old girl

Police took prompt action and managed to arrest the two culprits by tracking the vehicle after going through the CCTV footage that had captured the registration number of the vehicle. According to the police, both the victims have confessed their crime during the interrogation.

The state transport department has show-caused the luxury taxi provider Ola after the incident and sought explanation from it. A strict action will be taken, said state transport minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Police said that the accused Ola driver, Guddu Singh and his associate Sankar Sahu had abducted the victim from pavement of 9, Brabourne road on late Tuesday night. The two accused had repeatedly raped the minor girl inside the vehicle and later smothered her and dumped her body in a canal near Ambedkar Setu in Topsia.

Police on Wednesday fished out the body of the victim and sent it for post-mortem examinations. Police came to know in the interrogation that the accused dragged the victim inside the car and travelled through Babughat, Princep Ghat before taking the AJC flyover. The accused finally parked the car on Maa flyover and raped the victim there. Soon after committing rape, the accused smothered her to death and dumped her body in a canal at Topsia area.

Victim’s mother rushed to the Hare Street police station and lodged a complaint on the basis of which the police started an investigation. The investigating officers rushed to the spot and came to know about the registration number of the vehicle after examining the CCTV footages.

The police managed to track the vehicle and arrested the two accused from Khidderpore area. They took the culprits to Hare Street police station for their interrogation.

The two accused initially denied the incident but following prolonged interrogation, they admitted their crime. They have been booked under the charges of abduction, murder and destroying the evidence.
On the basis of the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accused smothered her to death on Park Circus Bridge on their way to Topsia. They dumped the body in a canal.

Police later took the two accused to the place of the incident for the sake of investigation. The accused were remanded in police custody till September 9 after being produced before the Bankshall Court on Wednesday.

A press statement issued by the Ola authorities said: “We are saddened by the reports of the alleged misbehaviour of a driver in Kolkata. On preliminary identification of the cab details shared by authorities, we have suspended the account associated with this cab with immediate effect.

As per our records, this incident has not occurred while on the Ola platform. We will work with the authorities to share any information that will help support their investigation.”
