Of pictures and paintings
When a little girls exploration of her emotions takes form of paintings and pictures, it’s definitely worth a look. Saumyaa Mehra is 14-year-old budding artiste who loves painting and photography. Her zeal for art reverberates through her paintings, with joy and harmony being captured through a keen eye.
The young artistes show is curated by Maurice Ryder, pictures and paintings on display are result of a year long period of learning. Mehra works through varied media - from acrylic on canvas to pen and ink – she captures her subjects in diverse contexts, combining vivid colors, a strong sense of light, and composition. At the exhibition she displays these paintings, and showcases an array of digital photographs in multiple genres. In the words of the artiste, ‘Painting is my passion, and through art I explore the emotion of my passion.’
Mehra has successfully completed five years of formal examinations in painting. At the age of 12, she was awarded the Ankan Manjari (Junior Diploma) in painting by the Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, Kolkata. Along the way, she also earned an honorary mention at the Yang Ming 3rd International Children’s Painting Competition and 21st International Children’s Painting Competition.
