Of park and its recreations

Alliance Francaise de Delhi,in the Capital’s Lodi estate, is all set to present a comedy play, The Park on January 17. The play is a sarcastic comment on the growing intolerance amongst us as what starts of as light hearted altercation evolves into a serious conflict about space, territory and ownership. The play is directed by Vishesh Arora and is in ‘hinglish’.

To sum up in one line in the play, uttered by one of the character is that this bench belongs to him because he came here before all of them and hence he has a history to this place. The statement sticks to the mind in synonymous with reflective of the current times that we live in. It is a comedy about three men in a park fighting for their place; there are three benches but not enough. The play touches upon something that is at a premium these days space literally and metaphorically. What starts of as light hearted banter evolves into a serious conflict about space, territory and ownership.

The cast of the play includes Chetan Malhotra, Vishesh Arora and Jasmeet Singh.
