Nursing staff commits suicide, blames colleagues in voice message

In the voice message that was the delivered to her husband, the victim, Mahua Patra (39), a nursing staff member of KS Roy TB Hospital alleged that if anybody could be held responsible for her death, they were the nursing superintendent of the hospital Banashree Mondal and sister-in-charge Sikha Mitra.

The victim committed suicide on Sunday night and her body was later removed by the Government Railway Police from the railway track on the same day.

The victim’s husband Prabal Patra said that she was suffering from thalassemia. He alleged that despite knowing the fact, the two accused Sikha Mitra and Banashree Mondal used to give her night duties.

After raising a complaint in this regard, the victim was transferred to Beliaghata ID Hospital. He also alleged that they urged the medical superintendent of the Beliaghata SP Mitra to change the timings, no step was taken.

Beliaghata superintendent also happens to be the husband of Sikha Mitra. As a result of this, the victim was suffering from depression for a while and this had prompted her to commit suicide. It has also been alleged that the nursing staff had been subjected to mental harassment at her work place for the last few months.

In the voice message the victim also apologised to her parents, son and husband for taking such a drastic step. She also said that her husband took great care of her. But as some of her colleges started harassing her at her work place, it had ultimately led to her death.

The accused nursing super Mondal said that she was disheartened after hearing about the incident.
She also said that on few days ago she had received a sick application from the victim and forwarded it to the superintendent of the hospital.

A senior official of the KS Roy TB hospital said that the victim had raised some complaint verbally but she never lodged any written complaint in this regard.

The victim was a resident of government housing on Ibrahimpur road under Jadavpur police station. A probe has been initiated.
