Nursery admissions to begin from Jan 1: Govt

The rush for nursery admissions will start from the first day of the year of 2016. The date has been announced as per a circular from the Delhi government released on Tuesday.

The circular has also mentioned reservation of 25 per cent seats for students from Economically Weaker Section (EWS).

On Twitter, deputy Chief Minister and the Education minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia stated that the schools would have to declare admission criteria which should be well defined, non-discriminatory, unambiguous and transparent.

Emphasising on transparency, Sisodia stated that schools must have its admission criteria and total number of seats displayed for the awareness of the parents. Adding to this point, Sisodia said that the schools must upload details of the applicant students and marks allotted to them.

“Admission schedule for entry level classes for open seats in pvt schools issued today. Process to start on 1st Jan 2016. Schools have to declare admission criteria which shall be well defined, non-discriminatory, unambiguous & transparent,” Sisodia said in a series of posts on Twitter.

The admission process which will begin from January 1 will conclude on March 31.

While the last date for submitting the application is January 22, the first list will be displayed on February 15 followed by another list on February 29.

In the recently concluded Winter session, the Delhi Assembly passed two Bills to contain errant private schools in the city. These Bills, when made into Acts, will allow the Delhi government to appoint an independent authority for the annual audit of accounts of all the private schools in the city besides taking penal action against them.

The government will also have powers to prosecute the management if found guilty of taking capitation fee or money in any other form which was not declared at the time of admission.
