NTPC wins top honours for environmental care

NTPC has been given the top honor for climate change initiatives by its Centre forPower Efficiency & Environmental Protection [CenPEEP]  at the Earth Care Award 2012  in NewDelhi, organised by a media house. The award was received by N N Misra, director [Operations]  and Pankaj   Bhartiya, general manager, CenPEEP  NTPC Limited from Jayanti Natrajan, union minister of Environment and Forest.

Earth Care Awards recognises innovators and crosses borders to felicitate outstanding  green warriors from SAARC Nations— Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India.

On receiving the award  N N Misra, director [operations] NTPC said that the award motivates us to further our green initiatives with thrust on low cost and sustainable technology  as the top power generator of the country.

CenPEEP is a symbol of NTPC’s pro-active approach towards environmental protection. The Centre was established in collaboration with USAID to address climate change issues. CenPEEP has demonstrated technologies and practices aimed at efficiency improvement andGHG reduction from power sector. NTPC has also done exemplary work on environmental protection and CSR.

The award has been adjudged by eminent jury comprising of M S Swaminathan, chairman, M S Swami Nathan Research Foundation and eminent persons from organisations like International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, Centre for Environment Education, Nehru Science Centre,  National Council of Science Museums, Centre for Development Studies and Activities, Indasia Fund Advisors Private Limited, Shailaja Chandra, IAS [retired], UNEP and Mckinsey & Company.
