NTPC quarterly net soars 30%

NTPC, the country’s largest power producer, on Friday posted a nearly 30 per cent jump in standalone net profit at Rs 3,142.35 crore for the three months ended September. The company had a net profit of Rs 2,424.12 crore in the same period a year ago.

In a regulatory filing, the power generator said its total income from operations climbed to Rs 16,351.33 crore in the 2012 September quarter from Rs 15,657.45 crore in the year-ago period.‘During the September quarter, one 660 MW unit at Sipat project and a 500 MW unit at Simhadri plant started commercial operations,’ it said.For the six months ended September 2012, NTPC’s net profit went up to Rs 5,641.02 crore from Rs 4,499.90 crore in the year-ago period.

The total income from operations surged to Rs 32,517.28 crore as against Rs 30,148.36 crore recorded in the six months ended September, 2011.Currently, NTPC has an installed generation capacity of 39,174 MW.
