NTPC, Badarpur, helps neighbourhood youths live their dreams

NTPC has been a committed and socially responsible corporate citizen since its inception and formulated specific guidelines for the welfare of project-affected people and community development in the neighbouring villages around its power stations.

To actualise the mission statement of NTPC every unit of NTPC has committed an unique approach based on their locality. In this line, 'Sampriti' E-Voice at Badarpur has identified certain Community Development Programme based on the specific needs and requirements of the area.

The NTPC plant at Badarpur is surrounded by highly populated villages of Delhi such as Badarpur, Jaitpur, Molarband, Meethapur, Tazpur, Aali and Madanpur Khadar. Though the present living conditions of people living in this area is utterly unhygienic, gloomy dismal and dehumanised, but majority of them still dream of improving the qualities of their lives.

While working in these villages, Sampriti E-voice, working since 2004 for the implementation of CSR activities of NTPC, have observed that the second generation of people born and brought up in these villages have great potential for improving the living condition through education and getting better jobs.

To actualise the dream of youths of nearby village NTPC Bdarpur contacted Friends of Himalaya [a registered NGO] who have the experience in the field of skilled development. veloped Youth Development Centre at Sampriti Building at BTPS Township, with a focus on imparting life skill training, career counseling and capacity building of unemployed youths.

The programme started with the English speaking course in collaboration with TIMES Foundation and British Council. Two  batches of 25 candidates each started in Sampriti for a period of three months on 18 April 2012.

After successful completion of three months, a  Job Mela was organised by Times Group under Teach India Opening Jobs programme on 4 August 2012 at the College of Vocational studies Sheikh Sarai-II New Delhi-17, in which companies like Aegis, Digicall, A4A, Bharti Co., Genpact, Piza Hut, Costa Coffee, Dominos, Syrex and Shardha-Co. participated.

During this Job Mela, out of 42 candidates trained at Sampriti Youth Development Centre at NTPC, 40 candidates got employment in these companies.

The average salary offered was between Rs 7000 per month to 10,000 per month.
