NSAs have spoken to defuse tension, claims Pakistan

Sartaj Aziz, adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz on foreign affairs, on Monday said about the first such contact after the Uri attack and India’s retaliatory surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC).

Aziz’s statement, however, has neither been confirmed nor denied by New Delhi.

Aziz said a contact was established between India’s NSA Ajit Doval and his Pakistani counterpart Nasir Janjua after recent tension between the two countries on the Line of Control (LoC). Doval is credited with planning and executing the surgical strike, which has left Pakistan in an embarrassing situation.

“Pakistan wants to reduce tensions on LoC and focus on Kashmir,” Aziz was quoted by Pakistan news channel Geo News. He said that India wants to divert the world’s attention from Kashmir by escalating tensions.

Talking about Sharif’s recent US visit, Sartaj Aziz said the Prime Minister had explained to world leaders that incidents of border tensions would continue between both countries unless the Kashmir dispute was resolved.
