Notorious robber held

A 28-year-old man, who carries a reward of Rs 50,000 and was allegedly involved in robbery cases, was arrested here, police said on Wednesday.

The arrested man has been identified as Shakim, a resident of village Sare Kalan in Rajasthan. He was apprehended from Sewa Nagar here yesterday.

A pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from him, S B S Tyagi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

The 28-year-old was arrested in connection with a robbery case registered in Maurya Enclave in June last year. Shakim was allegedly on the run for the last six months and his arrest came close to the heels of police apprehending Wahid, the kingpin of the gang, last month.

Wahid, along with Shakim and one more person, tried to run away on the intervening night of June 3 and 4 last year with the jeep belonging to the Heera Jewellers in Pitampura but had to flee from the spot after a strong resistance by the security guards.

While the culprits were running away with the jeep, security guards fired at its tyre which resulted in the vehilce dashing against the footpath and one of the persons behind the wheel was found dead by the police later.
