‘Note ban has failed to unearth a single penny of black money’

Demonetisation has “failed” to unearth a single penny of black money in the last one month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said, once again terming it as a “scam”.

He told a press conference that it would not fare any better in the remaining few days, till December 30, left to deposit defunct currency in banks.

“Modiji had sought 50 days. It has achieved nothing in the last 30 days and nothing will happen in the remaining period. It is a scam,” Kejriwal, who has been demanding the rollback of note ban, said. He alleged that the Centre was stalling the probe against Gujarat businessman Mahesh Shah, who had declared a whopping Rs 13,860 crore under the black money scheme saying he was acting as a ‘front’ for others.

Kejriwal claimed despite Mahesh’s “readiness” to disclose the “real faces” behind the amount, the Income Tax department was not questioning him.

He asked the Prime Minister and the BJP to clarify on the reported allegation by former Gujarat Chief Minister Suresh Mehta linking Shah with top BJP leaders. “Note ban was sold as a measure aimed at ending graft and curbing black money. Nothing happened in the last 30 days, then what will happen now, or in the next 20 days,” he asked.
