Not sure if CBCS will be implemented in next session: DU V-C

After the debacle of Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) , Delhi University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh on Saturday said “Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is feasible but unsure whether it will be implemented in next academic session or not.”

Under CBCS, students will have to pursue three types of courses -foundation, elective and core. The like system was adopted in FYUP but it did not go down well with DU students and teachers. Reacting on same , Dinesh Singh said “FYUP was meant to promote innovation. It could have worked with sincere efforts.”

When asked why subjects like environment and public health did not have designated teachers, Dinesh Singh dodged the question and rather replied by giving references from history ,saying that everything is inter linked. Still standing by FYUP, Dinesh Singh said “Even prominent leaders from our history have taught us that blackboard and four walls kills mind. We wanted students to focus more on self learning than relying on teachers.”

FYUP was the controversial programme which was implemented in Delhi University in 2013. After long protest and on directives of University Grants Commission (UGC) , it was scrapped in 2014.
Further clearing the air on tainted relation with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) , Dinesh Singh said “We are not in confrontation with anybody nor against anyone.”
