North to sensitise school girls against ‘risky’ moves

North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has decided to launch a special programme, Sayani Bitiya Rani, to train girls students in its primary schools to identify risky behaviour in men, and how to speak and respond against it.

‘It would be a sensitisation programme for girls, where they will be trained to identify behaviours such as unwelcome touch, gestures, or language,’ said Rekha Gupta, chairman of Education Committee in NDMC, presenting the budget of the Education Department before Standing Committee on Monday.

‘The girls will also be provided self defense training, and if anything untoward happens, how to tell their parents about the ordeal,’ added Gupta. She further said that instances of girls being victimised are increasing in the city, as they don’t know how to react, and also hesitate to narrate the incidents to their guardians.
