North MCD’s Building department most corrupt: Report

According to a latest report provided by the Vigilance Department, out of a total of 885 complaints received with the department, 554 were against officials and staff of the building department. 

As per the figure of complaints and pending inquiries compiled this month by the vigilance department, a total of 885 complaints were received. It shows that as per the general perception, the building department tops the list with 62 per cent of complaints against its official and staff. 

Building department is followed by the health department with 45 cases which is a mere five per cent. 

The Works department with 38 cases comes third in the list of departments with maximum number of complaints. The Education department comes fourth in the list with 32 cases followed by the DEMS with 30 complaints. 26 complaints have received against licensing department.

Least number of complaints were pending or received against the law department. The Vigilance department itself received two complaints against its officials and staff followed by the accounts department with three cases. Seven complaints each were received against the property tax and advertisement departments. Remaining cases were reported from the other departments. 

After trifurcation, the North Corporation started RDA against 463 official in 308 cases. Departmental charge-sheet has been issued to 396 officials in 256 cases. Issuance of charge-sheet is pending against 67 official in 52 cases. Currently, 19 civic staff or officials are facing suspension and since September 2012, 109 official and staff were suspended in 82 cases. During the last three years, the Vigilance department conducted 48 surprise checks in six Municipal zones of the Corporation and headquarters and initiated disciplinary action against 47 officials and staff.
