North East visits Delhi

North East visits Delhi
Part of the National Institute of Design's (NID) documentation project titled, Documenting the Textile Traditions of the North Eastern States of India: A Composite Design Study of Fibres, Fabrics, Looms & Tools, Uses and Cultural Indicators is being conducted under the aegis of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts. Spread over a period of four years, it is a design study of textile traditions in the North East.  In the Craft demonstrations area of the exhibition, weavers from all the above four states are demonstrating their skills with the use of loin loom and other handlooms.

The symposium, which is a part of the ongoing documentation project, showcases the documentation done in the first phase of the project.  The NID documentation will open avenues for acts of reciprocity. This outcome of transforming implicit indigenous knowledge into explicit material will serve as a rich resource for the future generations, various stakeholders in the region, as well as the policy makers.
