‘North Bengal Medical College staff need proper training’

The enquiry committee which was constituted to probe into the death of a woman who died after
falling from wheel chair while being shifted from one ward to another At North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) found that the person who was assigned the job could have been responsible behind the death.

The committee will however file a report to the NBMCH superintendent within Tuesday.  According to sources, NBMCH authorities may take some steps against the person who was not trained enough to handle the patient.

It was learnt that a majority of those working in the hospital did not have proper training.

A senior official of the NBMCH said that the action will be taken against the accused if found guilty.

The medical college authorities are now planning to impart training among them so that better health service could be provided to the patients.

Incidentally, it may be mentioned that Madhabi Sharma (30) who was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday died after falling from the wheel chair on Saturday.

She had given birth to a girl child earlier.

Madhabi’s husband Chandan had alleged negligence behind her death and he demanded a high level inquiry into the incident.

On Saturday morning the patient had complained of chest pain when she was being shifted to another ward. The incident happened when a hospital staff was taking her on a wheel chair.

The local MLA assured the patients family members that the matter would be taken up before the standing committee of health on December 30.

The NBMCH authorities said that none will be spared. If anybody is found guilty action will be taken against her.
