Norms for hospitals to check transmission of infections

The Health Ministry on Tuesday released guidelines for hospitals to prevent transmission of infections, a move aimed at strengthening efficient infection control programme in the backdrop of emergence of life-threatening infections.

The ‘Infection Control Guidelines for Hospitals’ was released by the Union Health Minister JP Nadda at the three-day international conference on Antimicrobial Resistance which kicked off here.

“The main objective of these guidelines is to prevent healthcare workers and environment from infections. The specific objectives of these guidelines are to provide directions and information in relation to facilities, equipment, and procedures necessary to implement standard and additional precautions for control of infections, cleaning, disinfecting and reprocessing of reusable equipment, waste management, protection of health care workers from transmissible infections, prevention of Hospital acquired infections (HAI) in patients, infection control practices in special situations amongst others,” the guidelines said.
