NOIDA plans free wi-fi facility along Noida-Greater Noida Expressway

The authority has decided to provide free wi-fi to city residents by setting a time limit for free usage. In the consequent phases, the free wi-fi service will cover major roads in the city, bus shelters, markets and public places under its pilot project.

A senior official said that the authority had installed Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) earlier and now it has been decided to enable free wi-fi for the public on the entire carriageway. “Wi-fi facility, which will allow people to browse the internet and download data while commuting on the Expressway, will be in place as work on this projects is in full swing. Once started, it will ensure safety and security of commuters,” an official said.

In addition to this, the authority has also decided to create wi-fi zones in the city. As per the proposal, <g data-gr-id="32">facility</g> will be given in four phases. In its first phase, four wi-fi zones will be made and the next phases will have <g data-gr-id="30">similar number</g> of zones.

As the service will be based on time limit, internet users will get free access for 10 to 30 minutes depending upon the area. There will be no facility for free downloading.

Aiming to provide the service among masses, the authority will initiate it in crowded areas first which will include all bus shelters located in and around the city, key roads, markets and public places. Internet users in the vicinity of bus shelters will get free internet access for the first 10 minutes while users in other parts will get the facility for the initial 30 minutes.

“In order to make the city safer and smarter, the need of the hour is to turn the entire area into a wi-fi zone. With reviving of earlier announced Expressway project, our aim is to cover most parts. Tourists, mainly foreigners, use to travel to Agra via the city, hence it will attract more tourists by providing such better connectivity, they can do their work and can enjoy the journey as well. This will also give an additional option to them as they could use GPS services to know the route too,” the official added.
