Noida, Ghaziabad to get Metro feeder buses

A welcome news to the Metro users of Noida and Ghaziabad. The government agencies concerned are sorting out issues to make feeder buses a reality in both the cities. But Noida is likely to take a lead as the authority has finalised the routes as well. 'The main problem in the city is traffic congestion, which will be minimised if people are encouraged to use public transport. So, we are focussing on public transport in the city,' said Sanjeev Saran, CEO Noida.

The planners have decided to connect two Metro stations - City Centre and Sector 16 - with feeder buses. These two stations have enough parking space to accommodate buses. Both metro stations would be connected by two routes, each. The first route to connect City Centre Metro station would cover Sectors 62, 63, 61, 71, 51, 50, 49 and 46, while the second route is slated to cover Sectors 33, 34, 35, 52, 58, 60 and 23. Similarly, the first route of Sector 16 would cover Sectors 19, 20, 10, 12, 22, 55 and 56 while the second route go to Sectors 19, 20, 26, 27, 25, 21, 24 and 23.

'Feeder buses in Noida are long awaited demand of citizens and also RWAs in the city. It will ensure safe and secure journey of commuters, specially working women,' said N P Singh, president Federation of RWAs in Noida. The feeder bus project was earlier stuck in revenue sharing issue. But now the authority is keen to re-negotiate with DMRC.

The transport department in Ghaziabad is also chalking out road plan for feeder buses in the city. So far only two Metro stations are situated in Ghaziabad city, Kaushambi and Vaishali. But the last Metro station of this route -Vaishali -is far from adjoining areas of Vaishali, Vashundhara and Indirapuram. Commuters from Trans-Hindon area and Ghaziabad also had to come to Vaishali to access the Metro service.
