No ‘out-of-box’ ideas?

Either the government officials have not been enthused by the Prime Minister’s call to come forward with innovative ideas for good governance, or his officers have not bothered to process the ideas forwarded to him. According to information received under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the government has no record of any idea received in the idea boxes placed in different government offices.

“No information is available,” said the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) in response to an RTI query seeking detail of suggestions received through the initiative and action taken on them. A total of five ‘idea boxes’ were installed in June this year by the DoPT at prominent places in the North Block, which houses Ministries of Personnel and Home among others, inviting ideas from government employees.

Besides these, one such box each is installed at Lok Nayak Bhawan at Khan Market and Old JNU Campus – from where some of the divisions of the Personnel Ministry function. The boxes are to be opened on every Friday evening, according to a DoPT order.

All officials have been requested to put their ideas briefly on a sheet of paper by mentioning their name, designation and posting in the designated boxes fro consideration at appropriate level, it said.
