No need to remove Ajay Chautala: TTFI Gen Secy

Despite the clamour to remove Table Tennis Federation of India chief Ajay Chautala, the body on Wednesday said there is no need for him to resign as he is not seeking another term in the office.

TTFI’s president and Haryana MLA Chautala was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by a CBI court on Wednesday for his involvement in a teachers’ recruitment scam.

‘We recently amended our constitution as per the Sports Code. Ajay Chautala has clearly said he will not contest the elections as he has completed his 12 years in the office. There is no question of asking him to step down when he is already demitting office next month,’ TTFI general secretary Dhanraj Choudhary said.

The federation, last week, had held a ‘special’ general body meeting to adopt provisions in the Sports Code with regard to age and tenure, which prescribes tenureguidelines for the president and other office bearers to a period of 12 years (three tenures of four years each).

Also, it sets the age bar of 70 years for the members to contest elections. TTFI elections are likely to be held in late February or first week of March and the federation has decided to convene an executive board meeting to finalise its date.
