No more tailor-made transfers, postings for South MCD teachers

As per the proposed policy, a teacher shall be transferred only after 10 years from their initial recruitment and will never be posted in the school he/she had worked previously. The second transfer will be effected only after three years. Under the policy, preference and <g data-gr-id="34">weightage</g> will be given to those who are close to their retirement, unmarried female and physically challenged.
As per the inspection and review of records of the Corporation schools, it has been observed that after the initial appointment of teachers in many schools, some teachers continue teaching in the same school for years. It has been seen that some teachers have been teaching for 30-35 years in the same school after their initial appointment.

Under the proposed policy, teachers who are in the same school for 10 years and above will be shifted to other schools where they will have to continue service for at least three years. A school, where a teacher has worked once, may not be transferred again to that same school. However, teachers with physical disabilities will be transferred near their residence and female teachers near their in-laws after marriage. Teachers nearing retirement may not be transferred.

Additionally, only female teachers in girls’ schools and male teachers in boys’ schools will be appointed and <g data-gr-id="33">appointment</g> of both male and female teachers will be made in co-ed schools. On chronic and critical illness, transfers will be considered on sympathetic grounds and general transfer will be made only in April and July every year. Once approved, <g data-gr-id="31">new</g> policy will cover a total of 589 schools in which about 7,639 teachers are posted.

Ashish Sood, Leader of House in the SDMC, said that following the teachers’ plight, it has been decided to introduce the new policy. As there are no specific rules for this, sometimes it goes in favour and sometimes against the students. It has often been seen that teachers spending longer time periods in one school have a tendency of taking high-handed advantages “The Corporation has formed a committee headed by me and the report will be submitted within a few days. The committee will discuss all aspects and probably teachers appointed on an ad hoc basis after retirement, are likely to be inducted under the policy,” said Sood.
