No hike in parking fees

The poll bound BJP has decided to turn down the budget proposals of municipal commissioners to increase parking charges in the city. Taking the initiative, chairman of standing committee with North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) Yogendra Chandolia rejected the proposal of the municipal commissioner to increase the parking charges.

‘The proposal of the municipal commissioner to increase the parking charges in the city is not acceptable and we will focus on measures to contain the widespread corruption and make the system free from parking mafias,’ said Chandolia, finalising the budget for 2013-14 on Tuesday.

‘We will think of increasing the rate only after eliminating ‘mafia raj’ and making the system fool proof so that all the money paid by citizens reaches the account of the corporation,’ added Chandolia.

In his budget proposal Chandolia proposed to expend around 34 percent of the budget on social welfare means. In another significant change in the budget he rejected any increase in residential property taxes but increased rates for non-residential properties by three per cent.

‘We are committed not to increase any tax as people are already burdened with the taxes and price hikes. We will look for bringing more tax payers and realising our tax dues from tax defaulters to increase the tax revenue,’ said Vijender Gupta, Delhi BJP president. The final tax proposals of the the three BJP ruled municipal corporations in the city would be same and parking charges will not be increased in the city, added Gupta.
