No decision yet on Team Modi

The parliamentary board of the BJP, which met on Monday, failed to finalise the composition of the campaign committee, whose chairman is Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. This was the second meeting of the parliamentary board after the Gujarat chief minister was appointed chairman of the campaign committee in Goa.
The delay in forming Modi’s team assumes significance as one of the agendas of the parliamentary board was to finalise Team Modi. However, in another move that is seen as an attempt to keep a check on Modi, the BJP has decided to form various committees which will be headed by BJP president Rajnath Singh and have Modi as member.
‘Different committees will take care of the party’s election manifesto and parliamentary election meetings, chargesheet against the UPA, development agenda and other things. Parliamentary board has authorised party chief Rajnath Singh and poll campaign panel chief Narendra Modi to form these after consultations with senior party leaders,’ said BJP leader Ananth Kumar. Sources add the decision on Team Modi has been kept in limbo for the
time being.

The day also saw Gujarat chief minister meeting BJP senior leader Murli Monohar Joshi at the latter’s residence, with sources indicating that RSS general secretary Bhaiiyaji Joshi, had in fact asked Modi to take along the seniors of the party for any decision-making.

The BJP on Monday also made it clear that the party has come into election mode and is ready for snap polls for which it has laid down a roadmap making good governance and development as its poll planks. Ananth Kumar said the party will adopt a two-pronged strategy for the polls which will include a political campaign by holding rallies and meetings across the country and an organisational strategy to put the party’s structure in place.

’The Congress party does not want to face Parliament because of its failures on curbing corruption, price rise, economic crisis and other fronts,’ said Kumar.
