No child’s play: Kids pull off Rs 20 lakh heist

Three kids — a girl and two boys — robbed a bag of jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from a wedding function at Outer Delhi’s Sydney ground farmhouse on Saturday night. Police have not ruled out the involvement of an adult who mingled with the crowd and helped in committing the theft.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Saturday when a girl and two boys, aged between 10 and 12 years, stole a bag containing Rs 20 lakh jewellery. The bag was kept with the bride’s grandmother.

The theft took place when everyone present at the occasion was looking at the gate from where the bride was coming.

Taking this cue, the girl ran up to the place where the old woman was sitting with the bag, took it away when no one was looking and fled from the spot.

Police said that the father of the bride, Ramgopal Bhutani, a businessman from Sonepat, had
organised the wedding function at the farmhouse keeping in mind the security arrangements of the place. Police have recovered the CCTV footage and are analysing it to find out the movement of the kids.

However, involvement of an adult who accompanied the children has not been ruled out by the police.

According to the police, Ramgopal Bhutani claims lack of responsibility on the part of the security guards who were posted at the gates of the farmhouse.

The entry of the three kids has not been recorded in the footage, however, the girl running away with the bag has been recorded.

A case has been registered at the Alipur police station under Section 379 (Punishment for theft) of the IPC against the accused persons. Further investigation is underway.
