NLC powered its way to many records in FY13

Navratna  public sector enterprise (PSE) Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) recorded a superb performance in most production parameters in the just concluded fiscal 2012-13.

The company's total overburden removal from all the mines put together was 1674.97 LM3 during the year, the highest for any year since its inception. The total lignite production from all its mines put together was 261.97 lt and lignite production from mine-II was 139.32 LT in 2012-13, the best figures for any fiscal since inception.

The total power generation from all its thermal power stations put together was 19901.79 mu, TPS-II was 11238.26 mu and TPS-I expansion was 3319.70 mu, the highest for any year since inception.

The total export of power from all its thermal power stations put together was 16840.78 mu, TPS-II was 9455.66 mu and TPS-I expansion was 3035.55 mu, the highest for any year since inception.

NLC operates three opencast lignite mines at Neyveli and one at Barsingsar, Rajasthan, of total capacity of 30.60 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and  three thermal power stations at Neyveli and one at Barsingsar with a total installed capacity of 2740 mw. With regard to TPS-II expansion, rectification/ modification works for Unit-I are in progress and erection activities are in full swing at Unit-II by BHEL. It is now anticipated that the commercial operation declaration (COD) will be completed for Unit-I by December and Unit-II by January 2014.

In respect of the coal-based power project (2 X 500 mw) at Thoothukudi, a joint venture of NLC & TNEB, supply and erection activities are in progress and the units are expected to be commissioned in December 2013 and March 2014 respectively.

Meanwhile, re-tendering activities for steam generator packages of the Neyveli New Thermal Power Station (NNTPS) are in progress and orders are to be issued by June.
