Nitish Kumar to take oath aided by a small Cabinet

It is unlikely that the allies, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) or the Congress and the CPI would attend the do on Sunday, given that RJD bigwig Lalu Prasad is keeping busy with his younger daughter’s engagement ceremony and the Congress leadership appears uncomfortable with the idea of joining in.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony in what is being perceived in political circles as a re-alignment of political forces.

Sources in the RJD told Millennium Post that Lalu Prasad, who was away in Saifai in Uttar Pradesh for the engagement of his daughter, Raj Laxmi with SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s grand-nephew Tej Pratap Yadav; would be  holding consultations with Kumar regarding the number of ministers his party would be allowed to have. “Consultations would also be held with the party members on those to be present in the Cabinet.

“Lalu Prasad’s elder daughter Misa Bharti and the party’s leader in the legislature Abdul Bari Siddiqui are front runners for a key post in the Cabinet,” a party-insider said. Sources further added that Vijay Chaudhary, PK Sahi, Bijendra Yadav, Shyam Rajak and Lalan Singh are among the leaders, who are likely to take oath along with Nitish Kumar on Sunday.
