Nitish govt may move SC for cancelling Shahabuddin bail

According to sources, the government has decided to back the claims of complainant Chanda Babu, who is all set to file a petition against the bail to the dreaded criminal in Supreme Court.

“As per the practice, once a complainant files petition against any judgement in Supreme Court, the top court issues notices to all related parties. Since the Bihar government is also a party in the case, it will not defend the bail to gangster and present all available criminal records of the former parliamentarian before the apex court,” a source said.

“The government is committed to maintaining better law and order situation in the state, but since it’s a matter of judiciary, we have to act according to legal procedures only,” the source maintained.

Blaming Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for raking up the whole issue for political gains, JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar said, “It’s the BJP-led government at the Centre which is responsible for it. If they had acted on the recommendations of Bihar government for CBI probe into the murder of Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan, this would have not happened.” Centre on Wednesday finally decided to have CBI probe into Ranjan case.

Meanwhile, Siwan Superintendent of Police Saurav Kumar Sah said that police have taken cognizance of the photograph of the absconding suspects in the killing of Ranjan, Mohammad Kaif and Mohammad Javed, with Shahabuddin after his release from Bhagalpur jail on Saturday. 

Shahabuddin was in jail for 11 years in connection with dozens of cases against him and was granted bail on September 7.
