Nine railway employees get safety awards

The Northern Railway honoured the services of nine employees for their alertness and promt action in averting untoward incidents with safety awards at a ceremony held on Thursday at Northern Railway Headquarters in Delhi .

The safety awards were presented by V K Gupta, general manager, Northern Railway. Also present on this occasion were B.P. Gupta, additional general manager, Shiv Kumar Chaudhry, chief operations manager, Northern Railway and the principal heads of all departments and representatives of employees Union.

The nine employees who were felicitated by the general manager for their services are Nanku Keyman, Firozpur division, Sanjay Khurana, traffic gateman, Delhi division, Mani Ram, ESM-III, Delhi division, Madan Lal, pointsman, Ambala division, Shyam Sunder, keyman, Moradabad, Ranjani Khan, petrolman, Ambala division, Ramesh, patrolman, Ambala division, Chhotey Lal, gatesman, Lucknow division, Rakesh Sharma, pointsman, Delhi division.

Giving examples, the CPRO, northern railways, Neeraj Sharma, said, ‘Chhotey Lal who is the gatesman of Lucknow division saved a loaded goods train from fire explosion on 27 October 2012 around 6.50 am.  When he noticed smoke coming out of the hot axles,  he informed the station superintendent and stopped the Pakhroli train.’

In another such gallant case, patrolman Ranjani Khan of the Ambala division showed a red signal to a loaded goods train on the Ambala-Dulkheri track on 26 October after he noticed the rail fractures and unsafe conditions on track due to rusting.

Another patrolman from Ambala Division, Ramesh,  saved the life of several passengers on 13 September by stopping the passenger train from getting derailed by informing the higher officials to stop the train at Noli Station after sensing faults.

‘Due to their diligent working, the staff of this yard had achieved a noteworthy record in reducing the failure index by 50 per cent. Their meritorious contributions were highly appreciated by the general manager,’ added Sharma.
