Nine months on, Shokeen continues to dodge cops

On September 10, Delhi Police Special Cell had filed a charge-sheet against him and eight others under the provisions of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for allegedly running an organised crime syndicate. The charge-sheet said he, along with other seven accused, including his nephew Neeraj Bawana were running an organised crime syndicate which was extorting money and committing murders, land grabbing and settling property disputes, all aimed at pecuniary benefits.

Shokeen has been declared a proclaimed offender when he did not join the investigation after Delhi Police and Baghpat Police summoned him several times. In January, Special Cell arrested four persons working for Sunil Rathi for freeing a notorious criminal Amit Malik, alias Bhura, from police custody. They told police that they have hatched the plan at <g data-gr-id="20">Rambir</g> Shokeen’s office in Outer Delhi.

After this shocking revelation, Delhi Police have shared the input with their Baghpat counterparts who later took the custody of the accused persons. Few months later, Special Cell managed to arrest <g data-gr-id="21">Bhura</g> who also named Shokeen as the conspirator.

It is important to mention here that Baghpat police had asked Delhi Police to either investigate or detain Shokeen as his name is cropping up in the investigation conducted by police officials of both the states but Delhi Police have paid no heed and stayed mum on the matter until Shokeen managed to escape.

Speaking to Millennium Post, a senior police official of Special Cell said: “Teams are deployed and they are continuously carrying out raids in several parts of the country. We are unable to trace his last location as he is currently not in touch with any of his family members or friends.”

According to sources, his last location was traced in Punjab where Special Cell teams conducted raids but to no avail. “In a bid to evade arrest, Shokeen has left the country and currently he is hiding in
Nepal,” the source said.

It’s worth mentioning that last year when Shokeen’s name cropped up in another criminal case, Delhi Police had <g data-gr-id="22">witness</g> a high-voltage drama that could have scared Special Cell officers.

In March last year, a raid was conducted at Shokeen’s house to nab Pankaj but to no avail. However, Shokeen created a high-voltage drama and said that Delhi Police had illegally conducted a raid at his residence and when he asked them to show a search warrant, they misbehaved with him and his wife.
