Nine gang members held for intimidating voters

Neeraj Bawana, who is a wanted criminal, is the nephew of Reeta Shokeen’s husband and Mundka’s former independent MLA Rambir Shokeen. Millennium Post had earlier reported about meetings of the Bawana-Bhura gang that were reportedly held at Shokeen’s office during his tenure as a legislator.

Amit Bhura is also a wanted criminal who fled from the custody of Uttarakhand Police along with AK-47 and SLR assault rifles. It is Bawana who is suspected to have helped Bhura escape. In December 2014, Rambir Shokeen was summoned by UP police in connection with the escape of Amit Bhura from Uttarakhand.

“The police in outer district frequently received information about members of the gang extorting money from businessmen in the area and intimidating voters. According to a tip off received on Friday morning, some of the gang members were to assemble at a house in Delhi-Rohtak road and a trap was laid accordingly. As soon as the gang members approached the place in two SUVs, they were intercepted by police vans and overpowered by the cops,” said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

The gang-members were being led by Parwesh Mann (alias Sagar), who was a wanted criminal accused of a double murder case. Mann, a resident of outer Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area, is a close associate of Neeraj Bawana. The other gang-members were identified as Manjit (27), Ajay alias Monu (32), Rahul (20), Ajit Singh (29), Kuldeep (29), Manjit Anteel (28), Narender Anteel (30) and Ajay Kumar (25). All of them belong to Karnal and Sonepat districts in Haryana.

DCP Yadav said, it emerged that Neeraj Bawana were to follow the two vehicles which were intercepted by the cops. But he received information about the police trap mid-way and hence he could not be arrested.

“Since the area of Mundka is contiguous to Haryana border, the gang members used to come to Delhi and they used to go back to their hideouts after a brief stay. They used to avoid the metalled roads and slip through the innumerable passages in the semi-agricultural and semi-industrial areas in outer Delhi,” said Yadav.

Bawana’s gang, strengthened by Amit Bhura, has off late turned out to be a major extortionist and contract assassination syndicate operating in west, north-west and outer districts of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, Yadav added.
