Nine Bangladeshi nationals held in Basirhat

Police have arrested nine Bangladeshi national, including a woman, from Anantapur area in Basirhat on Wednesday night for illegally intruding into the Indian Territory. The North 24 Parganas 
district police are, however, investigating the purpose of their visit. They are not ruling out that possibility of them being involved in illegal activities in the border areas. 

Police were also interrogating the accused to know whether they had links with terrorist outfit.
The incident has raised a question mark on the role of BSF jawans who were there along the Indo – Bangladesh border in the area.

Police came to know that the some Bangladeshi national would be assembled at Anantapur area and the senior police officer from Basirhat raided the place and arrested the accused. As all the accused failed to provide any valid documents the police have arrested them on charges of illegally crossing the border.

The accused, however, told the police that they were going to Chennai to work as daily labourer. They entered into our country with the help of a tout who helps the people in crossing border.
They came from Sathkhira in Bangladesh without any valid documents.

Police are, however, verifying their statements and conducting raids to nab the tout who is involved in the incident. The accused were remanded in police judicial custody after being produced before a court in Basirhat.

Police are also investigating if they had any involvement with anti-national activities. The investigating officers are also trying to ascertain the actual motive of their visit. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.

It may be mentioned that Burdwan district police on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi national whom the police suspect might have some involvement with the Khagragarh blast incident.

Police said that the accused, Rahul Mirbar who has been arrested is a resident of Ferozpur in Bangladesh. He was arrested from Burdwan’s Sarbamangala para area on late Tuesday night. He was remanded in police custody after being produced before Burdwan district court on Thursday.

Police came to know during investigation that Rahul had intruded into Burdwan few days ago and failed to provide valid documents to the police. He also failed to inform police who had assisted him to enter into India.

In the interrogation the accused failed to provide answers to the police about the purpose of his visit to the country. Police are also investigating whether the accused had any links with those who had already been arrested by the police in connection with Khagragarh blast incident.
