Nigerian national & woman from Nagaland arrested

A Nigerian national and a woman from Nagaland have been arrested for duping several women across the country, by befriending them on Facebook, claiming to be British nationals.

The accused have been identified as David Chibunna, a resident of Nigeria and Tsenyani, who hails from Nagaland. They were apprehended following investigations into a case registered by Kolkata Police. In this case, the victim was duped of Rs 6,70,752. 

Apart from this complainant, these cheats have also duped several other female victims belonging to various other districts of India; their details are being gathered to ensuring justice in the matter, police said on Tuesday.

The arrested accused have been found to be experts in creating fake Facebook profiles of rich, smart and suave Europeans an American nationals, sending out friend requests to gullible Indian ladies, preferably single women, who are selected by extensive browsing.

According to the victim, she had received a friend request on her Facebook account from one Lewis Williams, allegedly a resident of London, UK. 

“Gradually, they became close virtual friends and used to have voice calls and chats over WhatsApp and Viber. Williams was using a UK phone number for interacting with the complainant. When their friendship was going strong, Williams made a plan to visit India to meet her and to visit places of tourists’ interests. He booked flight tickets for London – Delhi via Dubai and further from Delhi to Kolkata to meet the complainant,” she told police.
