On Monday, a 24-year-old footballer of Nigerian origin, died while playing football. His brother has alleged that he died because of negligence of the emergency services.

Raymond Aduko was practising as usual on Monday morning at the DDA grounds near Deer Park in Safdarjung when he fell unconscious.

His fellow teammates called the medical emergency number for ambulance service [102] immediately, but did not get any response. Following which they took him to the nearby hospital Orthonova at Hauz Khas, where he was declared brought dead, due to major cardiac arrest while playing football.

According to the police, the victim made his living by playing and teaching football at a football academy. Aduko married a girl from Shillong and had been living in India for the last six years. ‘He was brought to Orthonova hospital around 8.30 am after he collapsed while playing football at the DDA ground in Safdarjung Enclave. The doctors declared him brought dead and confirmed his death as cardiac arrest,’ said a police official.

Martin Aduko, the victim’s brother said, ‘When Raymond collapsed on the field, we called the emergency number 102, but there was no response. We had to take him in an auto-rickshaw to the nearby hospital.’
