NHRC notice to MP on man’s death due to ‘negligence’

The National  Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Madhya Pradesh government over alleged police insensitivity and medical negligence towards a man, who met with an accident near the state Assembly in Bhopal and later died.

The NHRC has sought a report within two weeks after taking suo motu cognisance of media report, alleging that 22-year-old Vikas Soniya was “left to bleed for 45 minutes” on the road by police personnel till the cavalcade of the CM passed on March 1. Subsequently, when the victim was admitted to a hospital, no medical aid was given to him for 20 minutes, as per the records of the hospital.

The Commission has issued notice to the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, calling for a report in the matter within two weeks.
