NHRC issues notice after girl commits suicide
Taking cognizance of a media report about a girl committing suicide in Chijarsi, Noida, after she was repeatedly harassed by three men, the NHRC on Thursday issued notices to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police calling for reports in the matter within two weeks.
“The Commission has observed that the contents of the report, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights. Accordingly, notices have been issued to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, calling for reports in the matter within two weeks,” the NHRC statement said. The girl had earlier written a note wishing to end her life. When her family came to know about it, they had filed a complaint with the Noida Police demanding action against the accused. However, the police did not pay any heed to the complaint.
