NGT seeks details of vehicles, parking space in society

The National Green Tribunal has directed East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) to submit details of the number of cars and the parking space available around a housing society in East Delhi.

A Bench headed by Justice U D Salvi also directed the municipal body to submit information regarding requisite parking space necessary to be made available to the housing society.

The green Bench was hearing a plea filed by Aviation Employees Cooperative House Building Society Ltd which approached the NGT alleging noise and air pollution due to <g data-gr-id="19">functioning</g> of unauthorised auto workshops in its vicinity.

It had alleged “inaction” on <g data-gr-id="21">part</g> of civic authorities for allowing some automobile service centres or workshops to operate within the residential area.

“EDMC shall place before us the requirement of law as regards the parking spaces necessary to be provided at the premises of the applicant society,” the Bench said while posting the matter for next hearing on October 13.

During the hearing, the society claimed that there were about 15 auto workshops on 80-feet Gagan Vihar Road which were a major source of pollution.

The counsel, appearing for the society, said that the society president was prepared to show the auto workshops to EDMC for taking appropriate action.
