New Town Business Club to get squash, badminton courts

A squash court and an indoor badminton court will soon come up at the New Town Business Club.

The decision was taken at a board meeting of New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA). Club members and residents had previously requested the authority for modern sports facilities.

The New Town Business Club is the first state-run business club and is taken care of by NKDA. A viewers’ gallery and changing room for the players will also be set up, along with a store room.

It may be recalled that Firhad Hakim, state Urban Development minister, had earlier inaugurated the club in July last year.

As more and more people started staying in New Town, officials of NKDA felt that there was a need to set up a club where residents and visitors could come with their families, socialise and spent some leisure time.

There are two swimming pools which have become very popular in New Town and its neighbourhood that even people from Chinar Park often frequent the club to use the pool.

The Business Club has now 700 members. Besides the swimming pools, there are rooms to play billiards and darts, outdoor tennis and badminton courts.

There is a room for kids’ entertainment, lounge, banquet room, guest room, restaurant and a snack centre. The club also has several guest rooms.
