New subway gets final touches before inauguration

Last minute touches are being given to the subway connecting the Eco Park with Mother’s Wax museum at New Town.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate a volley of projects in New Town on Friday.

The subway will connect two important tourist destinations, namely, Eco Park and Mother’s Wax Museum frequented by thousands of visitors. It may be recalled that over 48 lakh people have visited Eco Park since its inception. After visiting the park many people go to see the museum, the one of its kind in the state.

The two tourist destinations are separated by the Biswa Bangla Sarani where the average speed of vehicles varies between 80km per hour to 100 km per hour. Though traffic constables are posted people are still scared to cross the wide road.

To facilitate them a subway has come up. The subway is fitted with an escalator and the walls have been painted in such a way that it will be both soothing and attractive to the users. One or two stalls will be set up at the subway where people can buy newspapers and magazines and artificial jewellery. To protect the subway some economic activity should be added, Debashis Sen, chairman of Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) said.

In the Mother’s wax museum, a wax statue of Ma Sarada will be installed on Friday. The statues of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda have already been installed.
