New parking rates in east Delhi will hit you hard

In the steepest-ever hike in parking charges in its area, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has increased the fee from Rs 10 for 10 hours to Rs 10 for 30 minutes. In addition, an extra 50 per cent will have to be paid during the peak hours – 5-9 pm. At present, the corporation charges Rs 10 for 10 hours and Rs 20 for additional 10 hours. If a car is parked for three hours, one will have to cough up Rs 50, and Rs 20 for each additional hour after that. So if a user parks a vehicle for 10 hours, he will have to cough up as much as Rs 190 as parking fee, a nearly 20 times hike.

Further, an additional 50 per cent will be charged during the peak hours. The corporation has also increased the monthly parking fee from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500. Parking charges for two-wheelers will be half of what will be charged for four-wheelers. Charges for commercial vehicles such as tempo, auto-rickshaw, bus and truck will be double.
