New hq of Assam Rifles raised

The short, albeit elegant ceremony, held in the early hours of 16 July at Laitumkhrah, Shillong,  marked the completion of the raising of HQ IGAR (East). All officers, JCOs and other ranks posted to the newly established headquarters took part in this formal affair, smartly attired in their ceremonials. The proceedings began with the unfurling of the formation’s flag, by its very first Inspector General, Major  General Satish Kumar Dua, SM, a 1979 batch officer from the Indian Army who has had a chequered career, spanning over three decades. This is the third headquarters been raised by the Director General Assam Rifles, the other two being, the HQ IGAR (North) and the HQ IGAR (South). The establishment of HQ IGAR (East), which will shortly assume its operational responsibilities, will result in better command and control over Assam Rifles units and formations in its area of responsibility.
